When Quantum thermodynamics meets Quantum technology
Quantum thermodynamics is the study of thermodynamics of quantum systems - Such as atoms and photons. One is interested in how the laws of thermodynamics change in such scenarios, especially when there are superpositions of different energies. This is our main research focus.
Quantum technology is technology which controls superposition and other quantum effects to enhance performance - Famous examples include quantum computers and quantum cryptography. The study of quantum thermodynamics has been mainly theoretical. Recently strong connections with experiments have emerged. We have provided theory behind some of those experiments. These experiments have verified certain equations and concepts but the usefulness of quantum effects to viable technology such as cooling and energy extraction remains largely unknown.Read More 》
